Straitsmouth Island Light
rockport, ma
Built in 1896, this active and historic lighthouse is identified by her flashing green light, every six seconds that can be seen for six miles. Her light is forty-six feet above sea level and in fog, her automated horn sounds every fifteen seconds. She helps guide sailors in the harbor at Pigeon Cove.
Straitsmouth Island, together with Milk and Thacher Islands make up the trilogy of islands that explorer John Smith called the Turks Heads in 1614.
The Massachusetts Audubon Society manages Straitsmouth Island and the
U.S. Coast Guard maintains the lighthouse.
