Heceta Head Light

FLORENCE, OR

Built in 1894, this magnificent beauty flashes a white light every ten seconds, stands 205 feet above sea level and can be seen from a distance of twenty-six miles!

This isolated area was named for the Spanish explorer Captain Don Bruno de Heceta who was active on the Oregon coast in 1775.  Roads finally made this unique place accessible around 1930!

It took over a thousand barrels of explosives to create a flat area out of the side of the mountain to build this lighthouse . . . all brought in on horseback and mules.

This is one lighthouse that captivates and you find yourself in awe of the abundance of natural wonders . . . it’s hard to leave this incredible place.
